Human Rights & Peace
Medicine in the service of human rights and peace.
SCORP, the Standing Committee on Human Rights and Peace, empowers medical students to promote and protect human rights and peace through advocacy, awareness and capacity building. Founded in 1983, it works on human rights, peace, refugees and displaced persons, ethics in healthcare, disaster response and vulnerable populations.
At AUSSS, that means campus advocacy, community outreach and medical-ethics campaigns.
The mission of SCORP is to empower and motivate medical students to actively promote and protect human rights and peace through advocacy, capacity building, and awareness raising.

SCORPions · the Scorpion
SCORP’s advocates are the SCORPions, and the committee’s own magazine is called The SCORPion. Small but fearless, the scorpion stands up for those who go unheard: in the committee’s words, millions of people need SCORPions to stand up in their name. It is the emblem of medical students defending human rights, peace and the most vulnerable.
